Goodbye Blogger, Hello Wordpress

I've decided, after much thought, to move my blog over to Wordpress. It's taken me some time to set it up, and it's still not exactly how I want it, but from now on, my blog will be at

http://whatshappeningatmyhouse.wordpress.com/

I'd like to say a big huge thanks to Holly, who helped me no end with advice on Wordpress - without her, I'd still be struggling!

Thank you to everybody who reads, and I do hope you'll all come and join me in my new home
:-)

Advice, Please - Blogger or Wordpress

I've been considering moving my blog over to Wordpress, as I like the fact that you can have different 'pages' over there, and the layout seems loads more flexible. But I'm used to Google Blogger, so can't decide whether it's worth the upheaval.

Any advice would be very much appreciated - I'm in a bit of quandary!

I Won, I Won!!

Last week, I was the lucky winner of giveaways on two different blogs. The first was this fabulous wall sticker, which I won over on Liz's blog, the inspirational Violet Posy. I could select any wall sticker from Spin Collective, and I spent ages pondering over which to have. I eventually selected this gorgeous lily, which looks fantastic in my lounge.
I will definitely be putting an order in for more of these stickers very soon - my lounge NEEDS another lily!!! And I'm going to get some of these robots and aliens for William's bedroom. In fact, there are stickers that I could quite easily order for every room in my house!
My second giveaway only arrived yesterday, so I'll tell you all about that one when I've had a chance to look at it properly.

Photographic Memory Friday

Oh, I just love this photo.

It was taken in Mauritius on a family holiday in 2006. We used to wander down to the beach every evening at sunset (around 6 pm) and try and get that perfect sunset photo while the kids played at the water's edge.

This photo (of William, and Sam & Sophie, my nephew & niece) was my 'perfect sunset photo' of that holiday, and I have a blown up print of it on my office wall, which I still love (and have been meaning to get a frame for since 2006!

And Some Good News, Too ...

I rarely post any follow ups to my Car Boot posts, so as I've had a couple of really good sales this week, I thought I would do.

This pair of Hobbs Black Shoes that I bought for £2 over Easter Weekend sold this week for £25.22.

And this pair of turquoise Clarks Shoes that I bought for £1 sold for over £22.

These were definitely the star items of the week.

Sometimes Life Just Takes Over ...

I feel as if I've been chasing my tail for about a week and a half now, hence the lack of blog posts.

Sometimes life just takes over, and whatever I try to do to combat that feeling, I feel disorganised and, at the back of my mind, very slightly panic stricken and out of control. The Bank Hol at the beginning of this week has thrown my week out somewhat as well.

I've been really busy with my two school jobs (down to the really short first half of term, and a lot of governors' meetings having to be crammed in - and also the fact that I'm quite new to one of the jobs still, so am still learning as I go). I had a really unpleasant and abrupt email response from one of the Committee Chairs at the new school yesterday afternoon, which I could have well done without, on top of a problem at William's school which involved a phone call and fairly lengthy conversation with his teacher as well. Not to mention an ongoing saga with an insurance claim on some Payment Protection Insurance, which has gone astray, and which has involved several telephone conversations with people who promise to call me back/tell me something's been done and they don't/it hasn't - you know the sort of thing.

A very busy couple of weeks with eBay (though also very lucrative, so I shouldn't complain); a never-bloody-ending sea of paperwork and mess in my office, which I've been promising myself I'll clear out enough to hoover and dust for at least a month now.

All in all my head is very cluttered.

Anyway.

Today has been good.

I went walking with Lyn this morning for an hour (very slowly due to her bad back, but nevertheless we walked for an hour).

I've decided how I'm going to deal with the school problem at William's school, if it hasn't been resolved by the time I collect him this evening.

The insurance people have just called me back and assured me the money has now been paid into my account (hmmm, they assured me of that last Thursday, too, and it hadn't, so we'll see).

The rude Committee Chair is somebody I've been warned about as a person who sees fit to be extremely rude and condescending to administrative staff (bitch!), and let's face it, I don't suffer fools gladly and can give twice as good as I get, should the necessity arise. She's already crossed me once; this is the second time, and I will deal with her from now on with frosty politeness. If she continues to behave like this, I will complain to the Chair of Governors, and if it then continues, I'll leave. There - sorted.

I have ploughed through lots of paperwork today, and can almost see the bottom of the in tray.

I've booked an appointment to have my hair cut and highlighted next week (I've been putting it off for ages because my usual hairdresser is on maternity leave), which desperately needs doing.

I've also made an arrangement to go cycling in Exeter along the canal with Lyn next week.

So - small steps:

I'm going to get through the rest of this paperwork tonight - it's like a millstone around my neck.
